Also known as perilla, an annual herb from the mint family, is renowned for its aromatic leaves used in Japanese cuisine. Eye-catching green leaves with red undersides make this shiso a standout. Larger than our 'Red' and 'Green' varieties, it’s perfect for salad mixes, sushi wraps, or garnishes, with a mild mint/basil aroma. Ideal for ornamental use, the leaves show their best color when grown below 29ºC. Edible flowers add flavor to salads and Asian dishes, with minty, basil-like notes and hints of clove and cumin. Germination at 21°C, seeds can be slow to germinate. Soaking seeds for 24 hours before planting can help.
