Onion - Pukekohe Long Keeper

Onion 'Pukekohe Long Keeper' is a celebrated New Zealand variety developed in the early 1920s in Pukekohe, bred specifically for its outstanding storage capability and reliable performance in home gardens. It produces round, golden-brown skinned bulbs with firm, strongly flavoured white flesh that stores exceptionally well for up to 8–10 months, making it one of the longest-keeping onions available. A slow-bolting and vigorous variety that has earned its place as a New Zealand classic.

A long-day variety that bulbs up through the extended daylight hours of summer, 'Pukekohe Long Keeper' can be sown from autumn through to early spring, with autumn sowings giving plants the longest possible growing season for maximum bulb size and storage quality. It thrives in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil and rewards patient growers with a generous and long-lasting harvest.
