Zygocactus (Christmas Cactus)

Zygocactus is a cheerful and reliable houseplant that bursts into vibrant bloom when days are shortest—just in time for the holidays. Its segmented, arching stems spill gracefully over pots or hanging baskets, and in late spring or early summer (depending on the variety), it puts on a show of tubular flowers in shades of pink, red, white, or purple.

Unlike desert cacti, Zygocactus hails from tropical forests and prefers cooler temps and regular moisture. It’s long-lived, often passed down through generations, and makes a thoughtful gift or festive seasonal accent for any plant lover.

PLANT CARE

• Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates a few hours of direct morning sun
• Water: Water when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry
• Humidity: Moderate humidity preferred; mist occasionally during dry seasons
