Aji Lemon
Heat: Hot (30,000 SHU)
100 Days. A Peruvian Capsicum baccatum said to have originated in Lima, where it is known as Aji Limo or Aji Limón and remains a cornerstone of coastal Peruvian cuisine. Prized above all alongside fish and seafood, it is an essential ingredient in ceviche, where its intensely citrusy heat and bright, fruity aroma are irreplaceable. Outside Peru it is increasingly sought after by chefs and home cooks who want a chilli with genuine flavour complexity alongside its heat.
Plants reach 1 metre and produce well in pots or garden beds in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. A productive and rewarding variety for the kitchen garden.
Harvest: Pick when pods are fully ripe for peak citrus flavour and heat.
Flavour: Intensely citrusy and fruity with lively, bright heat.
