Arriba Saia
Heat: Very Hot (100,000-300,000 SHU)
A rare Brazilian Capsicum chinense producing small, lantern-shaped pods that ripen from green to creamy yellow. "Arriba Saia" means "raise your skirt" β a reference to women waving their skirts to cool their mouths after eating this ferociously hot pepper. A beloved heirloom from the northeastern states of Brazil, where it is traditionally used fresh in fish sauces, salsas, and seafood dishes.
The heat is intense and lasting with a fruity, floral aroma typical of the chinense species. Compact and highly productive plants perform well in pots or warm garden beds in full sun with rich, free-draining soil and regular moisture. A rare collector's variety with serious heat and exceptional flavour for hot sauces, salsas, and drying into powder.
Harvest: Pick when pods are fully creamy yellow for peak flavour and heat.
Flavour: Fruity, floral, and intensely hot with deep, lasting heat.
