Basil 'Sweet Genovese' is the classic Italian heirloom originating from the Genoa region and the definitive variety for authentic pesto. It produces large, broad, dark green leaves up to 7–8 cm long with a rich, sweet, slightly spicy fragrance and flavour carrying notes of clove and anise. The most widely grown and highly regarded culinary basil in the world, it is equally outstanding in caprese salads, pasta sauces, and fresh herb blends as it is in pesto.

Vigorous, bushy, and relatively slow to bolt compared to other basil varieties, 'Sweet Genovese' thrives in warm, sunny conditions with rich, well-drained soil. Pinch out flower heads as they appear to extend the leaf harvest and encourage dense, productive growth. A must-have herb for any kitchen garden.

Sow: Indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost; transplant after frost risk passes
