Broccoli - De Cicco
Broccoli 'De Cicco' is a heritage Italian variety dating to the late 1800s and well regarded for its long cropping season and outstanding flavour. It produces a small to medium central head followed by generous side shoots that continue cropping over many weeks, making it one of the most productive and rewarding broccoli varieties available for the home garden. The flavour is sweet and tender, holding up well whether steamed, roasted, or eaten fresh.
Unlike modern hybrid broccolis bred for a single large head, 'De Cicco' is valued for its generous secondary cropping. Once the central head is cut, the plant redirects energy into producing side shoots over an extended harvest period, delivering outstanding value from each plant through autumn and winter in New Zealand conditions.
