Carrot - Kyoto Red

Daucus carota

Carrot 'Kyoto Red' is a traditional Japanese heirloom variety grown in the Kyoto region, producing long, beautifully tapered roots to 20 cm with deep, glossy scarlet skin that intensifies as roots reach around 8 cm in diameter. One of the most striking red carrots available, the colour develops naturally through the growing season and holds well both raw and cooked. The flavour is notably tender and sweet, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating, juicing, salads, and cooked dishes alike.

A rewarding and visually distinctive variety for the home garden, 'Kyoto Red' performs well in deep, loose, stone-free soil and consistent moisture. Best planted in summer or autumn to avoid premature bolting and to allow the deep red colour to develop fully through the cooler months.
