Cilantro (Coriander)
Coriandrum sativum
Cilantro is a versatile annual herb producing soft, bright green leaves with a bold, citrusy-parsley flavour that is essential in salsas, curries, salads, and the cuisines of Southeast Asia and Latin America. This slow-bolting variety extends the fresh leaf harvest window longer than standard types, making it a practical and rewarding choice for the home herb garden or kitchen container. The dried seeds are also used whole or ground as the spice coriander, making it a genuinely dual-purpose crop.
Performing best in cooler weather, Cilantro prefers full sun to light shade and rich, moist soil. Successive sowings every 2–3 weeks ensure a continuous supply of fresh leaves through the season. Pick leaves young for the best flavour and harvest before the plant bolts to flower.
