Venus Flytrap 'Dionaea muscipula'
The Venus Flytrap is one of the most iconic carnivorous plants, famous for its hinged traps lined with sensitive trigger hairs. When an insect touches the trap, it snaps shut, digesting its prey for nutrients. Native to the bogs of North and South Carolina, this fascinating plant combines dramatic movement with compact, sculptural form. Grows in nutrient-poor, acidic soil.
Best grown in very bright light with consistently wet conditions, the Venus Flytrap is ideal for sunny windowsills, greenhouses, or outdoor bog planters during warmer months. With proper care, it will produce vigorous traps and occasional white flowers.
PLANT CARE
• Light: Bright light to full sun for strong traps and colour
• Water: Keep soil moist at all times using rainwater or distilled water
• Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity
• Considerations: Do not fertilise or feed by hand; requires a winter dormancy period; use carnivorous plant or sphagnum-based mix only
Please note: Photos are representative of the plants available; each plant is naturally unique.
