Onion - Walla Walla Sweet

Onion 'Walla Walla Sweet' is a renowned heirloom variety producing large, round bulbs with pale yellow skin and an exceptionally mild, sweet flavour so gentle that many say you can eat them like an apple straight from the garden. Named after the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State where they have been grown for over a century, these are among the sweetest and most celebrated onions in the world. A genuinely special variety for home gardeners who want something well beyond the ordinary.

A long-day variety well suited to cooler climates, 'Walla Walla Sweet' performs reliably in New Zealand conditions when sown in late winter to early spring for a summer harvest. The large, impressive bulbs are best enjoyed fresh as their high moisture content and low pungency make them less suited to long-term storage than standard onion varieties.
