Pachypodium 'Madagascar Palm'
Pachypodium sp.
Pachypodium is a striking and sculptural succulent from Madagascar and southern Africa, prized for its swollen, spiny trunk that stores water and its bold crown of long, narrow leaves that radiate dramatically from the top. A slow-growing architectural plant, it develops a more impressive and characterful form with every passing year, making each specimen truly one of a kind. When mature, it rewards patient growers with clusters of flowers — typically white or yellow depending on species — that emerge from the crown in a spectacular display.
A rewarding plant for succulent collectors and lovers of the unusual, Pachypodium thrives in full sun with very little water and makes a bold, long-lived statement in any bright indoor space or sheltered outdoor setting.
PLANT CARE
• Light: Full sun; at least 6 hours of direct sun daily for best growth
- Water: Water thoroughly when soil is completely dry during the growing season (spring–autumn); reduce to almost nothing in winter
- Humidity: Prefers dry conditions; tolerates low humidity well
- Considerations: Plant in a fast-draining cactus mix, such as our specifically designed blend for cacti and succulents. Never allow to sit in wet soil. Apply a liquid fertiliser monthly during the growing season.
