Peri Peri

Heat: Hot (50,000–100,000 SHU)

90 Days. A famous African Capsicum frutescens whose name derives from the Swahili word for "pepper pepper." Peri Peri has been cultivated across sub-Saharan Africa and the Portuguese colonies of Mozambique and Angola for centuries, where it became central to a style of cooking that spread worldwide β€” most famously through the peri peri chicken marinades and sauces now enjoyed globally. The slender, 7 cm pods ripen to a vivid red with fiery, fruity heat and bold flavour that is outstanding in marinades, hot sauces, and roasted dishes.

Highly productive plants reach 75 cm and perform well in pots or garden beds in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Excellent fresh, dried, or ground into powder.

Harvest: Pick when pods are fully red for peak heat and flavour.
Flavour: Fruity with a sharp, fiery burst of heat.
