El Choco Red
Philodendron rubrijuvenile
Philodendron rubrijuvenile, commonly known as El Choco Red, is a rare and striking climbing philodendron from the rainforests of Colombia. Its large, velvety leaves emerge a deep, rich red before maturing to a deep green flushed with burgundy and red tones -- a colour shift that makes each new leaf an event. The leaf texture is distinctly soft and tactile, with a velvety surface that catches light beautifully. A vigorous climber, it develops its most impressive foliage when given a moss pole or upright support to scale.
A rewarding plant for collectors and aroid enthusiasts, El Choco Red thrives in warm, humid conditions with bright indirect light and consistent care.
PLANT CARE
• Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun which can scorch the velvety leaves
- Water: Keep soil lightly moist; water when the top few centimetres feel dry; never allow to sit in soggy soil
- Humidity: High humidity preferred; warmth is essential for healthy growth
- Considerations: Provide a moss pole or upright support to encourage climbing and larger leaf development. Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix, such as our specifically designed blend for aroids and houseplants.
