Popcorn - Mushroom
Zea mays
Mushroom Popcorn is a specialty variety that produces firm, round, dense popped kernels rather than the irregular butterfly or snowflake shapes of standard popcorn. The sturdy, compact shape holds together exceptionally well under stirring and coating, making it the preferred choice for caramel corn, chocolate-dipped popcorn, and other gourmet confections where breakage is a problem. A genuinely useful and versatile variety for home cooks and food enthusiasts who want to produce quality coated popcorn at home.
Thrives in full sun, warm conditions, and well-drained, fertile soil. Plant in blocks of at least four rows for good wind pollination and well-filled ears. Leave ears to fully dry on the stalk before harvesting, then cure in a warm, dry place for four to six weeks before popping for the best results.
