Classic American heirloom butternut developed in Waltham, Massachusetts. Produces uniform, tan-skinned fruit with dense, deep orange flesh prized for its rich, sweet, nutty flavour. A favourite for roasting, mashing, soups, and stews. Easy to peel and excellent for long storage—flavour improves after curing.
Vigorous, sprawling vines thrive in full sun with fertile, free-draining soil. Keep soil evenly moist and mulch well to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest when the skin hardens and the stem begins to dry. Cure in a warm, dry place for 10–14 days before storing.
An ideal variety for home gardens, food storage, and winter meals.
Sow seeds in good quality seed mix, maintain moist soil, and place in a warm, sunny location. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the risk of frost.
