Classic North American heirloom pumpkin with smooth orange skin and sweet, fine-textured flesh ideal for baking. Grown for generations in home gardens for pies, soups, and roasting. Fruit are small to medium in size, easy to handle, and store well after curing.
Sugar Pie pumpkins are the traditional choice for homemade pumpkin pie. Their dense, naturally sweet flesh cooks down to a smooth purée with no stringiness, making them perfect for rich, custardy fillings. Just roast, scoop, and blend—no need for canned pumpkin.
Vines thrive in full sun and rich, well-drained soil. Keep soil moist and mulch to retain water and suppress weeds. Harvest when the skin turns deep orange and the stem begins to dry. Cure in a warm, dry spot before storage to enhance sweetness and shelf life.
Sow seeds in good quality seed mix, maintain moist soil, and place in a warm, sunny location. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the risk of frost.
