Sensitive Plant

Mimosa pudica

Sensitive Plant is one of the most interactive and fascinating plants you can grow, producing feathery, fern-like leaves that fold closed instantly when touched and reopen a few minutes later. This remarkable touch-sensitive movement, known as thigmonasty, makes it an endlessly entertaining conversation plant for all ages and a favourite with children. Delicate pink, globe-shaped flowers add further charm through the warmer months, making it as pretty as it is curious.

Growing quickly in warm, sunny spots with bright light and consistently moist but well-drained soil, Sensitive Plant performs well indoors, in pots, or in sheltered garden positions. It dislikes cold temperatures and soggy roots, so water gently when the soil begins to dry and keep it in a warm, frost-free position year round.

In tropical climates it grows with real enthusiasm — growing in containers an is a simple way to keep it at its best and right where you want it.
