Serrano
Heat: Medium (15,000 SHU)
75 Days. A classic Capsicum annuum from the mountainous regions of Puebla and Hidalgo in Mexico, producing slender pods 5–8 cm long that are smaller and noticeably hotter than a jalapeño. Unlike most chillies, Serranos are traditionally used green — picked before ripening for their bright, grassy, crisp heat that is a cornerstone of fresh Mexican salsas and table sauces.
Plants reach up to 90 cm and perform well in pots or garden beds in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. Great for slicing fresh, pickling, or adding heat to any dish.
Harvest: Pick green for traditional use, or allow to ripen red for a sweeter, fuller flavour.
Flavour: Bright, grassy, crisp, and spicy with a clean chilli bite.
