Tomatillo - Chupon de Malinalco

Tomatillo 'Chupon de Malinalco' is a rare and exceptional heirloom from Malinalco, Mexico, producing large, pointed yellow fruit up to 10 cm long with a rich, sweet-tart flavour often compared to a blend of paste tomato and husk cherry. The pale green husks dry to a buff colour, revealing smooth golden skin underneath, and the fruit is excellent for salsa, roasting, grilling, or eating fresh straight from the plant. A genuinely special variety with outstanding flavour and impressive fruit size that sets it apart from standard tomatillos.

Vigorous and productive, 'Chupon de Malinalco' thrives in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Plant more than one for cross-pollination and the best fruit set. It performs well in New Zealand conditions through the warmer months and suits growing in garden beds or large containers in a warm, sheltered position.
