Spilanthes acmella

Also known as Spilanthes, Jambu or Buzz Buttons, this variety produces bright yellow button flowers that create a numbing, tingling sensation on the tongue. Adds a surprising twist to salads, cocktails, and desserts, and can be pickled for a zesty garnish. Historically used for oral health and pain relief, the flowers are both ornamental and medicinal. Thrives in full sun with rich, well-drained soil.

A compact annual with cheerful yellow-and-red cone-shaped blooms, it thrives in warm conditions and adds ornamental flair to garden beds and containers.

Growing Instructions

Surface sow indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost.
Germination: 7–14 days at 21 °C.
Lightly press seeds onto moist soil — do not cover.  Seeds require light to germinate. 
Keep warm and bright until seedlings emerge.
