Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a subtropical plant in the ginger family, grown for its golden rhizomes used in cooking and traditional medicine. The rhizomes are dried and ground into a spice with a warm, earthy flavour, commonly used in curries. The broad leaves are also edible and impart a mild, fragrant flavour when steamed.
Plant in rich, well-draining soil with part shade and regular moisture. Turmeric prefers warm, humid conditions and does not tolerate frost. In cooler climates, grow in pots or sheltered spots near the house. Rhizomes are ready to harvest 8–10 months after planting, once the leaves begin to yellow and die back.
Sold in a 10 cm pot (similar to one in photo). Suitable for containers, greenhouses, or sheltered garden beds in frost-free areas.
Plants ship on Mondays.
